Timber Rattlesnakes Show Their Tender Side

Sixty seconds is all it takes to be captivated by this reclusive animal’s motherly instincts.

Timber rattlesnakes in Catoctin Mountain Park, Maryland were recently featured on the National Park website.  The article, by Ann M. Gallagher, was originally published in the “Picture This” section of Park Science magazine, Volume 37, Number 1, Summer 2023 (July 31, 2023).

A recent collaboration between the National Park Service’s Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance (UERLA) and American University’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking paired early-career filmmakers with scientists to share stories about natural science in national parks through film.  Filmmaker Grace Eggleston created three rattlesnake-focused films for the program.  Learn more about this program on the National Park Service website.
